POLL: How did you find out that Father Christmas didn't exist, and how old was you?

My Mum used to put little bells on the washing line and they would tinkle in the wind, and my Mum would say "Shh!! Can you hear his sleigh?

Until one day my Dad put the presents in the bedroom fell over and woke us up. Any he replied in his usual soothing way "Get to sleep you ba$tards!" Ahh the loving sound of my Indian (India) father brings back such gentle thoughts of a fathers way of telling you Father Christmas doesn't exist!

POLL: How did you find out that Father Christmas didn't exist, and how old was you?
Being of the Jewish variety i was told Santa was a fraud from when i was knee high to a grasshopper, but for kicks id tell some of my school foes he was non existent, i didn't get no thanks for it either!!!
Reply:my big-mouthed older sister told me when i was 6....my therapist is still working on that with me
Reply:You mean he doesn't?
Reply:I can't remember. I'm not sure I believed in him in the first place.
Reply:I heard a noise in the middle of the night and decided that if i sat on the top of the stairs i might see santa....next thing i see my mom eating the mince pie (i'm really confussed at this point) and then she took a bite into the carrot and said to my dad, shall i just bite off half and then it'll look like the reindeers ate some of it.......:O
Reply:it has taken me a long time to answer this question, as i was so upset and couldnt stop crying, so i asked my husband to tell me you were lying and he confirmed your story, my life will never be the same again.
Reply:I already knew that because we never had a chimney in our home.
Reply:I saw 2 in the same shopping mall.
Reply:Oh no HE DOESN'T EXIST!...i have just found out now from you. my age well old enough to know better than to believe he ever was.
Reply:My stupid friends told me when I was 7.
Reply:I never believed in him.
Reply:I was about 7 or 8 and was watching this TV programme which was all about whether telling lies was ever justified. One of the people on the programme said that it was, and that every parent told a lie when they told there children that Father Christmas existed.

Actually, I wasn't too devastated - I think I had suspected as such
Reply:my world's just crumbled in and it's all the lady of the lakes fault!
Reply:WHAT! 16 if what you're saying is true! NOOOOO! Now everything I've ever believed in might be false too...like Jesus? If Santa's not still alive, how could Jesus be? Yeah, they both judge us, but at least Santa is patient.
Reply:it was during primary school when i was about 6-7.

i was very shocked and next christmas i stayed up and caught my dad *tactfully* putting them down.
Reply:I found that out when I found out that homeless people get nothing for Christmas. I thought that'd be very selfish of "Father Christmas." Then, I heard about it on "Everybody Loves Raymond," and that confirmed my suspicions.
Reply:My elder brothers used to tell me.

My mum said not to believe them. Since we didn't have a chimney I did question how he managed to get in the house and was told that either my mum or my dad would let him in in the night.

But one Christmas one of my brothers decided to have a bet with me to prove he was telling the truth.

i was to stay awake and if I saw my mum or my dad creeping into my bedroom in the middle of the night to leave my presents then that proved he was right and I'd have to give him one of my selection boxes.

The next morning my brother got one of my selection boxes but I didn't tell my mum or my dad I knew the truth in case I stopped getting presents. lol.
Reply:My friend told me when i was 5-i didnt believe her so she took me to her mum and said tell her its not real-i cried for hours!! xx
Reply:la la la la I can't hear you! I found out when I was 8, I overheard my mum %26amp; dad discussing where to buy a particulur item I wanted and who had it on sale!
Reply:I'm 53 and I still think he is real!!!! don't spoil it for me
Reply:You what??

He does so exist! Take it back!
Reply:I had an older friend that told me he wasn't real. I was gutted and put on a huge show for the next 2 christmases, just to please my parents! I feel so bad fibbing to my kids about Santa but what else can I do?!
Reply:God, you`ve just broken my heart with this sad news.

Santa doesn`t exist !

What shall i tell the Bishop,

What shall i tell the dear Sisters,

The poor brethren will be in tears !

I must go off and seek solace in the arms of the Lord.

Sanctuary, sanctuary, pease give me sanctuary.
Reply:I can't remember how old I was exactly when I figured out Santa was a total scam, but I suppose that's because he never played a large role in my life.
Reply:When the shop assitant told me that this year I was too big to sit on santa's lap

I was 27
