Silly question coming on?

If Christmas was moved back to when Jesus was actually born, which is on the first full moon after the Fall Equinox, what do you think the names would be for Christmas songs. Jingle bells on a one horse sleigh wouldn't work, as it would be too early for snow.

Reply:well i agree that Jesus' actual birthday would be earlier in the year than DEC. if you have ever been in the dessert during the winter months the sheep would have been brought in from fall pasture and keep in stalls or on the ground floor of the house.so late spring or early summer would be the more likely date of Jesus' birth.Most travel of any distance was done during the warmer dryer times of the year.

Any song that has to do with snow and sleighs would have to go.that would only leave those songs that can be sung at anytime of the year.

Reply:Of course this is based on the opinion that Jesus was killed on that day. I agree that Jesus' birthday wasn't in December but I think it was even earlier than you say. If you remember Joseph and Mary were traveling to Joseph's birthplace to be counted in the Roman census. So in all likelihood it was around Summer. The reason Christmas is in late December is so that it could take over the Pagan holiday of Yule, December 21st where the Pagans celebrated the birth of the sun God (son of God anyone).



Just like Easter is taken from the Pagan holiday of the rebirth of Nature. So what does colored eggs and a bunny have to do with the rebirth of Christ?? or maybe those things are Pagan symbols for birth and fertility.
Reply:the date of December 25th actually came from a pagan holiday. The early church decided that they would make Christmas that day because it helped the early converts to Christ to celebrate it that day
Reply:Fall was shearing season, they would not be in the fields. Spring Equinox is when they would be in the fields. Most biblical scholars acknoledge that somewhere closer to Easter would be when Christ was born. Christmas and Easter are actually both old Roman festivals that Christianity ended up attaching their major holidays to so that they could celebrate on recognized national holidays (and from the Emporers' perspectives later it was more efficient for the Empire, even for Constantine who looked at rectifying the clearly wrong dates but decided against it).
