Where did the song Silent Night come from?

why its slow? if it's a christmas song, why its slow unlike jingle bells?

Where did the song Silent Night come from?
"Silent Night" was written in Germany by Father Josef Mohr, where it was known as "Stille Nacht", with music composed by Franz X. Guber. It came to English by latest 1914.

Christmas is seen as a time of celebration, yes, as seen in "Jingle Bells". But with its religious trappings, lively music is not always appropriate. As a song of praise and lauding, the gentle ode "Silent Night" fits the Christian idea of the world becoming silent in awe of the God of the universe rescinding Godhood to become Man.
Reply:it was a folk song originally , written in 1816 by Joseph Mohr...first sung with lyrics on Christmas eve in 1818...it was elevated into a Hymn in 1838 when it was added to a German hymnbook where German-speaking congregations in the United States began to use the Hymnal , in 1863 it was translated into English and included in a collection of Sunday school songs.
Reply:it a folk song written by someone during sometime in 1800's or 1900's but maybe its slow because it wants to tell us the Lord is coming so we must give respect. lucky guess
Reply:written by a German priest one night when the church organ was out of wack. he picked out the notes on his guitar, and sang it at church. was an immediate hit.
