They are only wishing you well. The bell-ringers at the store entrance, same thing. What's your reply? Do you look the other way? An insincere "thank you" and move on?
Jehovah's Witnesses, what do you say when the cashier says, "Merry Christmas"?
I usually say, oh have nice day. If the person really presses, IE, what are you doing for Christmas, I politely explain I'm not celebrating it because I'm Christian.
If I was to say thanks, it wouldn't be insincere, I would know they were trying to be nice.
Reply:"Thank you. Hey- I saw that!!!"
(cashier counts change again and puts back what she "missed")
Reply:I just say thank you and nothing more.
Reply:I say "Thank you." Why would you say such would be insincere?
Reply:Nope. No offense whatsoever. How are the store clerks supposed to know our beliefs. They are simply being friendly. I just say "thank you, have a great day," and go on about my business. And my thank you is sincere. When you think you go through the entire year having store clerks not even say thank you when you turn over your money, it's a pleasant change.
Reply:I just say "Thank you" or "Thank you, --you have a nice day too.".
Many now say "Happy Holidays" instead and I tell them "I hope you have a nice holiday too. In essence, we are hoping they have a nice day.
Being friendly to others is a Christian trait that we should always use, even when others do not believe as we do. We always strive to follow the example Jesus set for us.

Reply:I will say "thank you " and then be on my way.
Reply:I think they say, you have a nice day to. I know I would.
Reply:This reminds me of the line in "It's a Wonderful Life" where the kid says "Every time a bell rings, An Angle gets it's wings."
In reference to the cashier, it should be "Every time anyone says 'Merry Christmas', A Jehovah's Witness burns in Hell"
Ya'll have yourselves have a wonderful "Merry Christmas". and God Bless!
