Why cant guys just tell you if they like you back or not?

i have a friend and i realised i liked him about a month and a half ago.... and decided to tell him this week. here's what went down...... i wrote him a note in class that said "i have a friend who likes you. but she dosent want to tell you because she dosent want to creep you out" and he was like " sweet. it's always good to know i have a secret admirer. it happens alot." and he had a huge smile on his face. so during lunch my friend was like... if he didnt act weirded out by that then just tell him. so as the lunch bell rang i gave him a christmas card that said "i'm that friend i told you about". so. today in class we acted pretty much the same as usual. not really aukward or anything. but neither of us brought up the fact that i like him.



so now my question is : why cant guys just tell you if they like you back or not? why do they have to leave you wondering about it?
