In your opinion what is the most **popular** Christmas associated icon?

Is it the cross? Santa Clause? Reindeer, Candy Canes, a Snowman, a Nutcracker, a Reef, Bells? An angel, a drum, what? It can be any of these things or ones I have not even mentioned here. Just curious as to what you think it is.

I actually seem to see more sleighs (ironically without Santa in it) than anything else. I see them as ornaments, on lawns, on roofs, as posters, and even as those light thingies people shine like on the side of their house that shows a picture.

a Christmas Tree
Reply:Now I don't wish to get all mushy and sappy, but you notice how you didn't even mention family?

I'm not blaming you (because the first thing that popped up in my brain even before reading your list was Santa!! LOL)

Isn't that a shame how we think of Christmas as a "pop culture" sort of thing?

I still say Santa though!
Reply:I think the most *popular* Christmas icon is The Christmas Tree. That's my favorite.
Reply:I think Santa Clause wins hands down. If Coca Cola can use him as a marketing icon than I think it's pretty clear what holiday he represents
Reply:Jesus Christ as a baby in the manger!
Reply:The Tree, bells, JESUS and the snowman!!!

Take care and have a nice Christmas!!!

And you can even put them on your pets... :o)
Reply:Jesus is the icon for Christmas, after all it's a celebration of His birth.
Reply:I would love to say the cross, as it is what Christmas is really about. But I guess in today's world Santa

Happy Holidays

Reply:Snow. People always think of the holidays when it snows.

Nativity Scene with Our Lord Jesus in the Manger which should be number One

Reply:Probably Santa Claus.

Even though I am a Christian and I love to celebrate this holiday to remember Christ, I know that many people don't believe in the story of Christmas from a religious standpoint but still celebrate the holiday anyway. Those people don't really use the cross or an angel as an icon.

But Santa Claus, a very magical (albeit mythical) figure, brings joy into the hearts of children around this time. No other icon adds more excitement and wonderment to the Christmas season than does St. Nick.

Santa appeals to everyone. The cross, or Jesus, only appeals to those who are religious. That's why I think Santa is the most popular with the general population.

Reply:The most popular icon is the cross; it's been around since the catholic church's inception; not that I believe that Roman Catholicism is Christianity; it's not; it is known as Papistry. For the Christian Jesus (Y'Shua, His Real Name in Hebrew) is the head of the church; for Roman Catholics, the pope is the head. Christians believe in the infalability of God's Word, the Bible; Roman Catholics don't believe that; they believe in the infalibility of the pope first, the priesthood second. But it is a shame that Christmas has lost Jesus almost all together; the people won't let Him in to His own birthday party! There is a story of a little old woman who moved into a town and tried to go to a wealthy church there. After the service, she walked up to the pastor while everyone around her looked at her slant-eyed. She told him that she wanted to become part of his congregation. They were wealthy, and she was poor. The pastor said, "There, there now; why don't you go home and pray to God and see what He says about it, ok?" A few weeks later, she saw him in the supermarket, and said, "Hello pastor!" He said, "Well, well; did you have a little talk with the Lord like I asked you to?" And She responded, "Why yes, I did; and He told me not to fret about it; He has been trying to get into your congregation for 35 years, and has had no better luck at it than I have!"
